I just returned from an annual girl's weekend with three of my dearest friends from Boston. Each summer, we go on a Tour de ______. The first year, we went to Martha's Vineyard and last summer it was Newport, Rhode Island. This year we headed inland to Northampton, a quaint town in Western Massachusetts where J lives. We catch up, cook meals, drink wine and partake in whatever the "local" activities are. I always leave the weekend feeling so thankful for the kind and fun friends that I have. Thanks, Ladies!
We kicked off the weekend with canoeing on the Connecticut River to a rope swing and then headed home to make a delicious (and entirely local) meal. J, our fabulous host, belongs to a meat share through Chestnut Farms (something I miss dearly from Boston) so we ate tasty meat complimented by vegetables from the local farmer's market.
This year we had a tiny friend along with us in the form of L's beautiful daughter. You can see her curious face poking up above the breakfast table. She did not want to be left out of any part of girl's weekend, particularly J's homemade strawberry scones (she based them off of this recipe - yum). The rest of our day included a trip to the Amherst Farmer's Market (where B found a broom that is perfect for Quidditch), a visit to Puffers Pond and then.... seeing Harry Potter!
Our pre-Harry Potter meal was at an awesome burger spot called Local. It is BYOB and the burgers and sides are not to be missed. If you pass through this area, be sure to check it out... and to get the fried pickles (I didn't say it was healthy).
We capped off the perfect weekend with brunch (complete with mimosas) at The Dirty Truth on Sunday morning. Pork belly breakfast tacos? Yes, please. Ladies, I am already looking forward to Tour de ______ 2012.
