There is something so demure and classic about an eyelet pattern. Whether it is a skirt where the pattern covers the whole piece or a top with only eyelet trim, it adds detail that can make an otherwise simple piece of clothing special. Warning - on the wrong piece of clothing it can look juvenile, so choose carefully! Eyelet is actually the pattern and typically is one where the holes make up only a small fraction of the fabric and are in isolated clusters. It is a style of lace knitting where "holes" in the fabric are purposeful and purposefully arranged.
I have a navy eyelet skirt that I wish I had bought in a second color because I wear it regularly and love the style and length. Since it is a solid color, it pairs with many things, but the eyelet patterns adds a nice texture and special detail that I love. This season there seems to be a lot of eyelet on the market.... here are a few pieces that I found:
And for an example of what I mean about eyelet being too juvenile to wear, I think this bikini from Shoshanna sums it up. In my opinion, no woman over the age of 18 should be wearing this... okay, maybe through college, but, to me, this looks like lingerie, not a swimsuit. Anyone disagree? J.Crew has a similar swimsuit this season and I feel the same way about it. I've offered some cute Cosabella lingerie as a point of comparison below.
Just one more thing that I saw and loved! The Embrace Scarf from Anthropologie comes in yellow, coral and gray. I actually think this is a great way to wear just a touch of eyelet to add some color to an outfit.
